Welcome to the Kahikatea Homework 2018

Homework is an important part of the partnership between the school and home. It allows parents to see what their children are learning at school, allows for the development of independent work skills, can complement the classroom programme and consolidates learning.
However, we need to acknowledge the very busy nature of today’s families and this has influenced our expectations relating to homework.
Please remember that there are also links here to Numeracy strategy videos to support what is being learnt at school.

In Kahikatea this year homework will be as follows:
  •  In Term 1, write three good sentences each night Monday-Thursday, in their Homework book with each sentence using one of their spelling words (accessed via the tabs at the top of the blog page). This serves to practise letter formation, basic punctuation (capital letters and full stops) as well as starting to learn their spelling, so please check their efforts.
  • 5-10 Spelling words related to the spelling pattern we are working on; To encourage children to become familiar with these words they will be loaded onto Spelling City  (see link at the side of the page) and are available for use in a variety of activities and games online, Spelling testing is done each Friday.
  • Revision of Basic Facts and Times Tables as required, (spare basic facts sheets are available via the tab at the top of the page)
  • Home reading (either as part of a home reading programme* or  as independent reading).

NOTE:Homework books are due back each Friday.

We ask parents to involve themselves in this process as this family involvement enhances the value of this for the children,
